Turin to host 108th World Esperanto Congress Good news for Turismo Torino e Provincia Convention Bureau to end the year. After working for years on the bid to get the World Esperanto Congress, the board of the World Esperanto Association (UEA) has selected Turin for the 108th edition. For a whole week, from 29 July to 5 August 2023, over 2,000 scholars in Esperanto will meet at the Polytechnic of Turin, generating an estimated direct economic impact of approximately 3.5 million euros in the territory.
The delegation of the association INOE comes to visit our naturist camping-resort.
As usual, INOE organizes an excursion during the excursion day of the Universal Congress. This year, we will visit the nature center "Le Betulle" (the birch trees), which is located less than 25 km from the Convention Center. This will be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a naturist and Esperantist atmosphere in a beautiful place near Turin. The trip will take place on Wednesday, August 2. We will leave the convention center in the morning, in rental cars, spend the whole day in Le Betulle and return at the end of the afternoon. Join now! With an area of 14 hectares immersed in the nature of Val Ceronda. Le Betulle is the ideal destination for a holiday, short stay or excursion dedicated to relaxation and naturist friendliness. We will be able to enjoy the place, its swimming pool, the sauna and tennis court, and also walk in the grounds. We will also be able to meet the naturist residents and vacationers, and talk to them about Esperanto. The price includes the transport to and from the naturist village "Le Betulle" and the entrance fee. There will be no refreshments on site so bring your picnic and anything to share with friends.
What Is Esperanto?
Esperanto is a constructed international auxiliary language. L. L. Zamenhof, a Polish-Jewish ophthalmologist, created Esperanto in the late 19th century and published the first book detailing it, Unua Libro, in 1887 under the pseudonym Dr. Esperanto, Esperanto translating as "one who hopes". His original title for the language was simply the international language (lingvo internacia), but early speakers grew fond of the name Esperanto and began to use it as a name for the language in 1889, which quickly gained prominence and has been used as an official name ever since. Esperanto is by far the most widely spoken constructed language in the world. Speakers are most numerous in Europe and East Asia, especially in urban areas, where they often form Esperanto clubs.[94] Esperanto is particularly prevalent in the northern and central countries of Europe; in China, Korea, Japan, and Iran within Asia; in Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico in the Americas; and in Togo in Africa.
